MUNICIPAL FIRE CHIEF
The Town of Chester is seeking highly motivated progressive applicants for the position of Full-Time Fire Chief. This person will have a strong desire to provide the highest quality fire services to the department and to the community. This is a new position for Chester and one we are excited to bring to the Public Safety Department. Chester has invested greatly in the growth of its Public Safety Department over the past 5 years to include a new Public Safety Building, standing up advanced teams in various forms of technical rescue to include swift water, the addition of a community health program and combined increased community engagement opportunities. Chester is at the forefront with Public Safety initiatives to greatly improve the services provided to our community. Chester is seeking an individual looking to continue moving the department forward with these initiatives.
The position will work closely with the Police Chief and Ambulance Chief and will play a key role in building collaborative coalitions to address underlying issues affecting the community. This position will be responsible for multiple duties including but not limited to fire protection, technical rescue, emergency medical services, leadership, training and administration. Qualified individuals are expected to work in all capacities required by the department. The applicant must possess strong leadership and administrative abilities with fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible fire service experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Preference will be given to having previously held the position of Officer. Certification as an EMT, or the ability to obtain an EMT certification within 18 months is required.

This full-time position will serve both departments and create continuity between offices. Responsibilities include maintaining and administering the Grand List and tax maps, assisting in the preparation of appeals, identifying properties which should be inspected, appraised, or reappraised, administering and implementing the Town of Chester’s Unified Development Bylaws, enforcing ordinances, processing permits, investigating complaints, issuing violations, and other duties as required. This position entails an ability to work with a diverse group of people and to adapt to an environment of rapidly changing rules, regulations, and systems.

Chester Ambulance is excited to announce a full-time EMT/AEMT position. The ideal candidate will be an AEMT or have the ability to achieve it within one year. Candidate will also have a strong passion for community-oriented health care. Chester Ambulance has a strong passion for the community. As a department we are building a community paramedicine program, interfacility transfers as well as advancing to the paramedic level. The ideal candidate would have strong leadership skills, as leadership opportunities could become available.
Candidate should possess the following knowledge and skills:

POLICE LIEUTENANT
A search is underway for a Lieutenant for the Town of Chester, VT., Police Department. This is an opportunity for a community policing oriented public safety official to assist in moving the Chester Police Department (CPD) to a 21st Century model of public safety. The search is being directed by Town Manager Julie Hance with the assistance of the current Chief of Police, Thomas Williams. The goal is to attract the right candidate to continue moving the CPD forward. The next Lieutenant will have the opportunity to assist in advancing the tenets of 21st Century policing that will strengthen the CPD and play a key role in building collaborative coalitions to address underlying issues affecting the community.
The Town of Chester is seeking an experienced law enforcement individual to serve as Police Lieutenant. This person will have a strong desire to provide the highest quality police services to the department and to the community. The Chester Police Department serves a population of approximately 3,144 residents and covers an area of approximately 56 square miles.
The Lieutenant is responsible for immediate supervision and control of all Department personnel and is personally responsible for their efficiency and effectiveness. The Lieutenant is second in command of the Department and is subject to the direction and control of the Chief. The applicant must possess strong leadership and administrative abilities with ten (10) years minimum full time law enforcement experience. Consideration will be given to total years of service in as much as they translate into evident knowledge and experience. Preference will be given to having previously held the rank of Sergeant.
Chester offers a competitive starting wage with shift differential, as well as an excellent benefit’s package including participation in VMERS Group C retirement, MVP health insurance, paid sick time, vacation time, and personal time. Uniforms and police equipment are provided.
